Yes, it is true – we have not discontinued our periodic newsletter, and no, you have not slipped off the mailing list. The landscape in South Africa seems to change so quickly these days, that we thought it dangerous to commit any comments to scrutiny. In many ways, 2018 has been a dreadful annus horibilis for this lovely land of ours. The bad news that followed the introduction of Ramaphoria in December 2017 seems to have dragged on interminably. One can hardly remember that polony tried to kill us with listeriosis at the beginning of this year. The catchwords and evil acronyms kept tumbling out: Steinhoff; VBS; Estina; Gupta; Eskom; SABC; SAA; load-shedding; bail-outs; turnaround strategies; Molefe; Moyane; WMC and EWC. There sometimes seemed to be too much for people to deal with.
