A BOBST first in South Africa for Shave & Gibson
Leading South Africa-based folding carton manufacturer, Shave & Gibson (S&G), has secured an industry first, with the recent arrival of a BOBST Visioncut 145PER die-cutter.
Based in Durban, Shave & Gibson were able to secure this new machine from Bobst, which is the first in the world in this format. Bobst has already sold over 300 of the Visioncut 160 model into the corrugated industry and the development of the 145 model is aimed more at folding carton converters. Installation of the new machine took place recently, with all the implications of Covid-19 restrictions. Best in SA packaging shine at Gold Pack Awards 2019
The winners of this year’s IPSA Gold Pack Awards, the premier showcase for the South African packaging industry, was announced at Inanda Club in Sandton on 30 October. Dating back to 1973, the annual event celebrates local companies in the packaging industry that are driving innovation and professionalism. Big winners on the night were Unilever, which walked off with 4 Gold medals, including recognition for its Sustainable Living Plan; and the Goats do Roam 3l Bag in Box Wine Carton entered by Shave & Gibson Packaging, which scooped the main Gold Pack Trophy and Gold in the Alcoholic Beverages Packaging category and Best in Paper category.

New eco-friendly packaging brand aims to replace plastic
DURBAN-based Shave & Gibson Packaging has launched a new brand within the company, Earthpak, with the stated aim of replacing plastic, polystyrene and metal food trays and cartons.

Investment at Shave & Gibson
Shave & Gibson, one of South Africa’s leading privately owned manufacturers of litho printed cartons and E-flute boxes for the FMCG, beverage and industrial markets in the Republic, has installed Vetaphone corona treatment technology on a 1500mm sheeter at its plant in Mobeni, an industrial suburb of Durban in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
The sale is part of Vetaphone’s drive to focus on wide web applications and is the eighth of its type in South Africa in recent times.
