As I sat down to write this editorial in the early hours of the morning of 6 December 2013, the sad news hit the internet that Madiba had died at around 21:30 on the evening of 5 December 2013. What a life well lived, and what an icon to guide us into the future. A light goes out, but a beacon of hope shines brightly forever. We South Africans of all hues, creeds and beliefs owe him so much. Ave, Nelson Mandela!
